The per capita spending made by tourists on their trips in Jiangsu last year reached 1507 yuan with an average stay of 2.6 days, according to the Jiangsu tourism development report in 2016 released recently by the provincial tourism authority.
Suzhou is the prime destination for foreign tourists visiting Jiangsu, as is evidenced by 1,612,800 foreign tourists with overnight stay in Suzhou. The figure is almost the total number of overnight foreign tourists received by the other 12 prefectural cities in Jiangsu last year.
The report shows the source of foreign tourists varies with Japan, South Korea, the USA, Germany, the UK and Australia as the main country of source.
678 domestic million tourists visited Jiangsu last year, the report shows. Suzhou, Nanjing and Wuxi were the top three destinations.
Shanghai, Zhejiang and Anhui, the three provincial regions that Jiangsu is adjacent to, were the top three place of source for tourists visiting Jiangsu last year. Overnight domestic tourists spent an average of 1.78 days in Jiangsu last year.
Transportation accounted for the largest sum of expenditures for foreign tourists, accounting for 28.08% of their total spending in Jiangsu. Domestic tourists spent much less on transportation due to their geographical advantages.
The report also shows that shopping accounted for nearly 20% of the foreign tourists’ total spending in Jiangsu. For domestic tourists, the expense on catering reached 20.7% of their total spending in Jiangsu, followed by their expenditure on shopping.
