Along the coastline of Yanchengcity which is located in the middle-east of Jiangsu, hundreds of thousands of acres of salt marshes are desperate for green vegetation and plantation.Zhang Yichun, a veteran in Xiangshui County, successfully covered the salt marshes with refreshing greens. The grapes, yellow peaches and pears he challenged toplanthave also embraced the harvest season.
55 years old, Zhang Yichun is a veteran and now lives in Sigang Village, Xiangshui County. In the spring of 2004, he began to try to plant trees along the seawall of Xiangshui.
The key factor to plant trees on salt marshes is to improve soil. To solve the problem of high salt-content of the soil, Zhang worked diligentlyto raise other crops first like wheatto reduce the content of salt. And when dry season was striking, Zhang would rent a water wagon to haul fresh water back from over ten miles away to water the young plants.
Having gained success in planting trees, Zhang challenged again to plant economic fruit trees. In 2015, he experimentally planted about 20mu of grapes and three years later, the fruits began to yield.
According to Zhang Yichun, he has made over 70,000 RMB from planting economic fruit trees along the coast. In the future, he would call on more fellow villagers to join him and become better-off.
