The city of Wuxi has stepped up the agglomeration of the Internet of Things industry to make it the country’s first prefectural city entirely covered by the narrowband IoT network.

The Little Swan Company has developed its first ever home-made smart washing machine based on narrowband networking technology, which can realize remote control and monitor its running state in real time through terminals such as mobile phone.

Boasting low cost and low power consumption, the narrowband IoT network has provided solutions for the transmission of data which was utterly impossible in the past. 90% of the Little Swan washing machines are now connected with the narrowband IoT network compared with 15% in the past, which has contributed to the improvement of user experience.

In addition to making household appliances more "intelligent", the narrowband IoT network has found widespread application in the city’s public utilities, smart cities, consumer electronics and other fields.

At an apartment block in Wuxi, where the narrowband IoT network is to be installed on the water meters at a remote location, the signal is very strong to cover the entire area and make the water meter data reading more accurate.

China Telecom has invested 200 million yuan for the deployment of 2000 base stations to cover more than 4628 square kilometers, helping Wuxi to establish the country's first largest localized and commercialized narrowband IoT networking, which will provide technological and networked support for a wide range of applications to be materialized in the city.

As the country's only national sensor network innovation demonstration zone, Wuxi has registered more than 2000 IoT businesses with a combined income of over 200 billion yuan.
