More than 10 thousand people at 67 public dancing squares in the urban areas of Jiangsu’s Yancheng city danced with the music of the song A True Story on Sept 16 in commemoration of a crane-saving girl.
The song tells a true story of a young girl, Xu Xiujuan, who sacrificed her life to save a red-crowned crane stranded in a swamp on Sept 16, 30 years ago.

As the gentle, sad melodies of the song’s original music are not suitable for square dancing, professional composers and choreographers were invited to adapt its music and dance movements, allowing the dance and music to tell the story with Yancheng’s fanfare and culture.
A commemorative hall of Xu Xiujuan was also opened on the same day.
