The 2017 Nanjing International Marathon kicked off Sunday morning with 28000 runners from around the world participating in the event.
The runners ran along the Zhonghua Gate, the former site of the presidential palace, the Zhongshan Gate, the ZijinMountian and the Xuanwu Lake in a sign of greeting the 19th CPC National Congress.
More than 3000 volunteers were recruited to help with the smooth progress of the event with two volunteers posted at an interval of every 100 meters.
At the junction of the closed roads, more than 3,500 police officers are on guard to ensure unimpeded road during the tournament.
Some 10000 runners managed to run across the finish line. AKenyan runner and an Ethiopian runner were crowned the first place and second place for the men’s event.
A runner from Nanjing was crowned the third place for 2 hours, 28 minutes and 35 seconds.
Three Chinese runners claimed the first, second and third places for the women’s event.
