According to statistics from China National Tourism Administration, by the end of 2017, Jiangsu had invested 1.2 billion yuan ($190 million) to build and renovate 3,100 public toilets, all of which reach the national A-level standard.

A “toilet revolution” is sweeping across Jiangsu.

In the Confucius Temple scenic area, there is a unisex toilet, where a diaper changing table, a baby safety seat, toilet facilities for kids and the disabled are fully-equipped in the 8㎡ space.

Unisex toilets like this can now be seen in many other tourist attractions in Nanjing, for example, the Zhongshan Mountain scenic area and Tangshan Hot Spring Tourist Resort, benefiting a lot to the elderly, children and the disabled to use toilet with help.

Technology is also playing an increasingly important role in public toilets. Three toilets in Changzhou Yancheng Relics Park once went viral on the internet for water-reserving, waste-free and the unique function of producing organic fertilizer.

The “toilet revolution” is to take more effect. In the next three years, Jiangsu is planning to invest 1.5 billion yuan ($159 million) to build and renovate another 3,650 public toilets, among which 1,000 are unisex ones.
