The Jiangsu Provincial Police Department said on March 6 that recorded telecom frauds had dropped 20.4 percent year-on-year and economic losses also declined by 24.5 percent, while cases solved by police rose 45.2 percent and the number of suspects caught also increased 32.6 percent.
In 2017, Jiangsu police increased efforts to crack down, process and intercept telecom frauds while enhancing their ability to launch precise strikes against suspects. Police also improved technical measures in the fight and conducted smart interception of phone scams and swindling websites. At the same time, police made more efforts in publicity to help people be careful of fraud.
Based on the two existing platforms -- smart interception of phone scams and the administrative platform on fake and fraudulent domains -- Jiangsu police have worked out a new technical system to make comprehensive prevention and control efforts against all kinds of telecom fraud, with the system already in trial operation. Police also put into use a system against telephone number forgery as they intercepted fake numbers up to 450,000 times a day. Meanwhile, fraud where swindlers pretend to be police and law enforcement officials fell by 85.7 percent over the same period last year.
