A Taiwan compatriot undergoing a surgery in Suzhou has enjoyed a local medical insurance policy. Chen Zongyong has lived in Suzhou for more than 20 years. He has Taiwan's "National Health Insurance" and has also applied for social security in Suzhou, which made him vexed about the choice of the place for treatment. Last Monday, the first affiliated hospital of Soochow university conducted a laparoscopic radical mastectomy on Chen Zongyong. Chen had 80% of medical expense covered by the insurance in Suzhou. He was glad that he has enjoyed the same reimbursement policy as the mainland residents. As early as 2005, Suzhou took the lead in the country to include foreigners, overseas Chinese, and Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao residents in the medical insurance scheme. At present, 1,140 Taiwan compatriots in Suzhou City have signed up for the city’s medical insurance program.
