A nomination system will be launched for the Provincial Science and Technology Award in order to broaden the source of the project and optimize the assessment methods, the provincial department of science and technology said recently.
The nomination system will replace the recommendation system in which the administrative departments announce the quotas, the science and technology personnel submit the applications and the institutions where the applicants work will make the screening.
Only the winners of the National Science and Technology Award, academicians and other academic authorities have the right to make the nominations.
No more than 300 winners will be awarded the provincial science and technology awards each year with the first prize not exceeding 15% of the total number and the second prize not exceeding 30% of the total.
The scope of the award will be expanded by encouraging the overseas returnees, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and overseas Chinese to submit their applications with the scientific and technological innovation findings made independently or cooperatively during their stay in Jiangsu.
From 2018 onwards, with the exception of the Provincial Science and Technology Awards, all scientific and technological awards funded by the government will be scrapped. This means that no prizes will be awarded below the provincial level. At the same time, social forces such as academic groups, enterprises, and individuals are encouraged to set up awards and explore new models of social science and technology rewards.
