The province's rural work conference has proposed to promote the green development of the rural areas and create a beautiful and livable environment. At present, various parts of Jiangsu province are accelerating the transformation of rural production and lifestyle to improve the rural environment and release the ecological dividend.
Yanhu Village, which is next to Shaobo Lake, is the only fishery administrative village in Yangzhou. The villagers used to take shelter on their boats and depended on fishing in Shaobo Lake for many years.
Later, the fishermen began to be engaged in purse-seed aquaculture in the hope of increasing the yield in the lake. Out of their expectation, they were met with decreasing algae and deteriorating water quality.
In October 2016, Shaobo Lake was zoned into the large ecological corridor of the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River. The lakeside within 3 km of the shore was required to return to the lake.
However, it is not easy for fishermen to give up fishing. How to ensure that they have fixed dwellings and stable income has become the most difficult problem.
Through rounds of negotiations, the local government laid out its plan for the unified planning and construction of townhouses, urban health insurance, training in the transfer of production skills, and developing agritainment fishing culture.
60% of the families in the village have come ashore to move into their new homes. More than half of the 10,000 mu fences have been demolished and the work is expected to be completed within this year. The Shaobo Lake, which used to be featuring with blue waves and clear water laden with fish and shrimps has gradually resurfaced.
