2018 World Historical & Cultural Cities Expo, Nanjing kicks off in May

  More than 300 local and foreign city mayors, representatives of UNESCO and international institutions, experts and scholars in the field of cultural and intangible cultural heritage protection, curators of internationally renowned museums and heads of public welfare organizations will make their appearances in Nanjing this May!

  What brings so many celebrities here?

  2018 World Historical & Cultural Cities Expo, Nanjing, jointly sponsored by Nanjing city government, UNESCO and Jiangsu Provincial Publicity Department, is to be hosted from May 25 to 28.

  Having the theme of “Sharing & Win-Win”, this expo is divided into four sections including “Expo, Publishing, Innovation and Legacies” and will carry out multi-cultural exchanges with guests from the world through the opening ceremony, forums, expos, and cultural activities.

  May 25

  Opening Ceremony

  Time: May 25

  Location: Yuejianglou Plaza

  People could enjoy the performance in three chapters: "Beautiful Landscape", "Charming Silk Road", and "Sailing". Through the Yunjin Fashion Show, the Belt and Road Artists Performance, and the performance presented by local artists combined with foreign features, the audience can also appreciate the cultural diversity of the Belt and Road Initiative and artistic creation.

  May 26

  Forums and Conferences

  Culture—the impetus to develop a city

  Time: May 26

  Location: Nanjing International Youth Cultural Center

  Forums will concentrate on four aspects including “Legacies and Cities”, “Cultural Construction in the Time of Big Data”, “Cultural Cooperation and Exchanges between Cities along Belt and Road”, and “Modern Youth and Cultural Innovation”.

  May 28

  Closing Ceremony

  Time: May 28

  Location: Jiangsu Center for the Performing Arts

  Jiangsu Center for the Performing Arts will stage a large-scale epic symphony --- "Jinling Seal", the scores by the first-class composer Zhou Xianglin, Wang Danhong, and Cui Xin; conducted by famous Chinese conductor Cheng Ye; and performed by the Symphony Orchestra of Jiangsu Performing Arts Group.

  Four Sections of Forums:

  1.   Expo includes: Forum for Curators, Exhibition on the History of Museums, Night Experiences in Museums.

  2.   Publishing includes: Belt and Road International Literature Forum, Belt and Road Youth Innovation Forum.

  3.   Non-legacy Innovation: Non-legacy Inheritance Forum, China Non-legacy CreationCreation Exhibition, and “We’re the Inheritors”.

  4.   Legacies and Cities: International Forum on City Wall Protection and Utilization and Sustainable Development of the City and "Jogging on the City Wall ".

  "Jogging on the City Wall " has a series of activities including the releasing of the postal stamps and the protection and utilization of the Nanjing Ancient City Walls. The event will be attended by leaders, guests and the public, and will be held in the main stage of the Zhonghuamen Gate City.
