At a review meeting in late April, experts gave the go-ahead to a plan to build Taizhou Medical New & High-Tech Industrial Development Zone into a national innovative park with distinguished characteristics.
The output value of Taizhou’s health-related manufacturing industry, centered on pharmaceutical manufacturing and food processing, exceeded 200 billion yuan ($31.4 billion) last year. The first paid-in one billion yuan of a drug R&D investment fund, which was estimated to be 10 billion yuan and set up jointly by Jiangsu Province and Taizhou City, has been put into operation. Taizhou City has also made plans to implement 98 key projects in health industry this year, with a total investment of 55.4 billion yuan.
Taizhou’s China Medical City has converged more than 60 leading universities and medical R&D institutes from home and abroad, and over 900 renowned pharmaceutical and health companies, including 10 famous multinational companies, attracting more than 3,100 top talents from around the world.
Last year, Taizhou realized a total output value of 122.6 billion yuan from pharmaceuticals and high-end medical equipment, and an output value of 77.66 billion yuan from the food industry, a year-on-year increase of 18.4 percent and 28.7 percent respectively. This year, Taizhou will kick off the building of a medical care and senior health part in the Pharmaceutical Hi-tech Zone, and strive to increase the overall output value of the city's health industry to over 300 billion yuan.
