Cycling climbing race kicks off in Wuxi

  The Java Climbing Race of the Chinese University Cycling Association kicked off on Huishan Mountain on May 13, attracting 160 cycling enthusiasts from universities nationwide to compete in Wuxi.  

  Sponsored by the Qiji Cycling Community of Jiangnan University, a well-known cycling community for college students, the race has been held for nine years, helping stimulate students' interest incycling and providing a platform for college students nationwide to communicate about cycling in the process. The race has also received support from the government.

  After a fierce competition, Che Biao from Suzhou University of Science and Technology won the gold medal in the men's road race, followed by Wang Jie from Shanghai University of Engineering Science and Sheng Yao from Jiangnan University. Wang Shuning from Jiangnan University came top of the women's mixed group.  

  With a length of 5.8 kilometers, the race route, going through the Huishan National Forest Park, is an asphalt road with railings located at the roadside for the safety of the riders. The race route has an average slope of 5.0 percent with the worst section at 10.0 percent, topping out at 290 meters altitude. According to the standards of the Tour de France, it can be defined as a Grade 2 climbing route (CAT.2).
