The Jiangbei New Area in Nanjing has made unremitting efforts to promote green development through advanced planning and ecological protection.
Lying against the Laoshan Hill and adjacent to the Yangtze River, Nanjing Jiangbei New Area is endowed with the unique and superior natural landscape.
The new area plans to invest about 6 billion yuan to build urban central parks and ecological scenic spots, boost river improvement, launch rescue projects, sewage treatment facilities and other ecological construction projects.
On a large open space across the street from Wentao Square in the Jiangbei Riverside Scenic Belt in Nanjing, a 7.5-kilometer green belt that runs directly from Laoshan to the river bank is under construction. The green belt is equivalent to installing a "purifier" for the core area of Nanjing Jiangbei New Area to help improve air and water quality.
By prioritizing ecological protection, Nanjing Jiangbei New Area has drafted series of measures to phase out obsolete production capacity and shut down pollutant enterprises to protect the Yangtze River shoreline with the strictest standards.
By focusing on advanced high-end segmentation markets such as polyurethane and synthetic rubber, the new area is building an emerging industrial system based on new materials, and accelerating the transformation and upgrading of key industries such as steel and petrochemical.
In 2017, the energy consumption and coal consumption of industrial enterprises in the new area decreased by 3.4% and 5% year on year. While upgrading traditional industries, the new area has focused on integrated circuits, life health and new finance to create green and high-end industrial landmarks. In the first half of this year, the GDP growth rate of the new area reached 13%, much higher than the municipal and provincial average.
