The city of Suzhou in east China’s Jiangsu province has given full play to its aid programs in the targeted poverty alleviation in Tongren city of southwest China’s Guizhou Province by injecting more than 500 million yuan in the past five years to the industrial, educational, cultural, tourism and healthcare sectors of Tongren.
The Gaofeng Village of Zhongjie Town, YanheTujia Autonomous County, Tongren City, is a national-level poverty-stricken village. In March this year, Shangang Village of Yangshe Town of Zhangjiagang City was paired with Gaofeng Village. A team of 15 elite talents from Shangang were sent to Gaofeng Village where they rackedtheir brains to help the local villagers shake off poverty.
According to Liu Canguang, the assistance team has invited a professor from Nanjing Agricultural University to make inspections and sent the soil samples to Nanjing Agricultural University for testing. The team has also examined the temperature difference and rainfalls before starting to introduce fruit varieties. The cultivation of American melon has been a great success and hailed by the local people.
In just over half a year, the team helped the village to plan and construct a 20,000-square-meter organic agricultural industrial park so as to enable the production of agricultural products all year round. It is estimated that the annual income per mu will reach 20,000 yuan.
The Tongren-Suzhou Industrial Park, launched in 2015, has now been upgraded to a provincial-level strategic cooperation project after more than three years of development, making it a symbolic achievement of cooperation between the two provinces.
The cooperative industrial park is now home to 224 enterprises, including 14 Jiangsu enterprises with the total investment adding up to 5.225 billion yuan, coming up with an industrial system represented by food, medical supplies, light industrial products and big data for the making of a cooperation and production integration demonstration area between east China and west China.
Suzhou has now formedassistance partnership with Tongren in ten aspects. Over the past five years, Suzhou has invested more than 500 million yuan to help 835600 people in Tongren shake off poverty, reducing the poverty rate from 30.72% in 2013 to 8.38% at present.
