The standing committee of the 13th Provincial People’s Congress wrapped up its 6th plenary meeting Friday afternoon in Nanjing.
Lou Qinjian, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, presided over the closing meeting and delivered a speech
The Decision of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Jiangsu Province on Supporting and Safeguarding the Development of Higher Quality Integration in the Yangtze River Delta Region was passed at the meeting.
The Yangtze River Delta region is known for its openness, economic vitality and innovation. Covering nearly 360,000 square kilometers of land, including Shanghai and three surrounding provinces — Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui — the region stands at an important intersection of the Belt and Road Initiative and Yangtze River Economic Belt. Home to abundant high-end science and innovation resources and emerging industries, the Yangtze River Delta generates over 20 percent of the national GDP.
Other laws and regulations were also passed at the meeting. Personnel appointment and dismissal were announced. Lou Qinjian awarded letters of appointment to the appointees who also took the Constitutional oath at the meeting.
The second session of the 13th Provincial People’s Congress is scheduled to open in late January next year, according to the meeting.
In his closing remarks, Lou Qinjian said deepening the reform of the party and state institutions is a major decision-making arrangement made by the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core in the overall development of the party and state undertakings in the new era.
He hoped that the new appointees will cherish the powers conferred by the party and the people, complete the tasks of institutional reform, and live up to the expectations and trust of the party and the people.
The meeting also reviewed and approved the report on the list of outstanding environmental issues from 2018 to 2020. Relevant departments are demanded to ensure that the targets for pollution prevention and control are completed on schedule and the quality of the ecological environment are improved continuously.
Lou Qinjian emphasized that the people's congresses at all levels in the province should thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important thinking on upholding and perfecting the people's congress system as an important political task for the present and future periods, carefully planning the work of next year and promoting the work of the people's congresses at all levels in the province for new development and new achievements.
