JSBC has launched series coverage on the success stories of ten counties, ten towns, ten villages and ten enterprises in Jiangsu to showcase the great achievements the province has achieved since the country’s reform and opening up 4 decades ago. In today’s program, we will introduce to you the overall great successes Hai’an County has achieved over the past four decades.
Forty years ago, Hai'an was an agricultural county with no geographical advantages and its comprehensive strength ranked at the bottom of Nantong City, a prefectural city that supervises Hai’an.
Today, Hai’an ranks first in the city and 29th in the nation’s top 100 small and medium-sized cities, making it one of the economic powerhouses of all the counties in the province.
Hai’an has attributed its success to the development of the local logistics industry based on the construction of an integrated transportation hub.
Two special railways for trade and logistics are continuously transporting goods and non-ferrous metals from all over the country to Hai'an Logistics Park.
Facilitated by the county’s advantages of logistics and transportation, Jiangsu Baijinhui Logistics Co., Ltd., which is separated from the railway, has become the only non-ferrous metal delivery warehouse in the north of the Yangtze River designated by the Shanghai Futures Exchange.
The small city in Central Jiangsu has become the center for the trading of non-ferrous metals in the Yangtze River Delta and even the eastern part of China through the special railway.
In the 1980s, Hai’an was marginalized due to its inconvenient transportation and the backward construction of transportation facilities.
Since 1980, Hai’an has promoted the construction of an integrated transportation hub by linking 42 townships with highways. The construction of the Xinyi-Changxing Railway and the Nanjing-Qidong Railway went underway in 1998 and went into operation in 2004.
Benefiting from the improved transportation network, Hai'an has made progressive efforts to adjust its development goals by proposing the development of modern logistics industry in 2011. Construction on the logistics industry park went underway in 2012 to encompass professional logistics function platforms such as bonded logistics, futures delivery, multimodal transport, and bulk materials trading with more than 200 logistics lines connecting all parts of the country.
In 2016, Hai'an unveiled its action plan for the transformation of hub logistics industry by planning to build a 50 billion-yuan new material industry base relying on logistics function platforms such as railway container transportation, copper-aluminum-lead-zinc futures delivery warehouse, and plastic futures delivery warehouse and a logistics function platform such as cotton bonded warehouses so as to come up with a modern textile industry base of 100 billion yuan. The other goals also include building a 100 billion-yuan modern home industry base by relying on logistics function platforms and projects such as railway ports and inland river terminals.
As of October this year, Hai'an had registered 32 3A-level logistics enterprises, ranking first in Nantong and giving a strong impetus to the city’s growth of regional GDP by 71.48 billion yuan, up 8% year on year and leading the five counties in Nantong.
