Rail transit lines 6 and S1 in Suzhou got under construction Tuesday.
Rail Transit Line 6 starts from Suzhou New District Station and ends at Xinqing Road Station. It is an important distribution route for the east-west passage of the city to cross the ancient city and Jinji Lake and for the passenger flow between the cities.
Line S1 starts from Yiting Road to Huaqiao Station, having 28 stops, is the east-west public transport corridor of Kunshan City. Through the transfer of Suzhou Rail Transit Line 3, Line S1 links between Suzhou, Kunshan and Taicang, and makes the traffic between Suzhou, Kunshan and Huaqiao more convenient with the transfer of Shanghai Transit Line 11.
At present, Suzhou is constructing two rail transit lines: Line 3 and Line 5. Line 3 is undergoing mechanical and electrical installation and fit-out, and the trial operation is scheduled for December 2019. Line 5 is undergoing the renovation of the main structure and slated to have the trial operation in June 2021. The construction of Line 7 and Line 8 will start next year.
By around 2024, Suzhou will have built nine rail transit lines with a total mileage of about 350 kilometers. The total passenger flow of the network is expected to exceed 4 million, and the ratio of rail transit to public transportation is 46 percent. At that time, Suzhou will form a relatively complete rail transit network, and initially build a service city, connecting the Shanghai rail transit line network, further consolidating and strengthening the status as an important central city in the Yangtze River Delta.
