In south foot of Niushou Mountain, Nanjing, there is an institution giving palliative care to children specially. It is “Rainbow Intensive Care Center for Children”. The children live here are almost under age of 8, and some of them are only several months old.
The image of some chilling pieces may occur to you when you first hear of Intensive Care Center. While walking into “Rainbow Intensive Care Center for Children,” you would feel like going back to your kindergarten again because of the colorful rooms and toys, elegant pianos and singings there.

Her favorite class is painting and her favorite pal is Wei Ran.
Qian Lan is 7 this year. Epidermolysis bullosa has made her skin fester spontaneously. She needs to completely clean herself and change the gauze around her body every morning.

Painting and writing are Qian Lan’s favorite classes. She could spend a whole afternoon with only a piece of paper and a crayon.
How can they enjoy more wonderful life experiences in the end of their lives?
Early education teacher Guo Zhanmin began to collect leaves and asked children to make colorful leaves painting. So, these little angels are able to sense the exchange of four seasons.

It is not convenient for Qian’s little hands to work. Therefore, a good idea that breaking leaves to pieces and asking children to fill in the drawing paper with these leaves occurred to Guo.

Every time when a picture is finished, children will clap their tiny hands and show their innocent smiles.

Every Birthday May Be The Last.
As a child, Qian Lan also has her emotions—pains and joys, and she has a rare character of maturity and quietness in that age.
Their world to them is their home there. Qian says her favorite friend is Wei Ran and she enjoys listening to the birthday songs sung by Wei.

A birthday party each month is the best present that their nurse moms can give them.
Every Birthday is possibly the last birthday among their lives.
Nurse moms make the elaborate cakes by themselves, prepare balloons and also sing birthday songs with children.

The separation is destined.
Qian Lan would cry because of the skin ulceration. Every time Guo Zhanmin hears the cry, she feels the pain and cannot let it go. To say goodbye to the little angel, is to kill a mom.
Rainbow Intensive Care Center for Children has adopted over 60 angels, and more than half of them have gone to heaven. Their pictures hung on the rainbow wall.
Huang Fang, person in charge of the Home, tells the reporter that every time an angel leaves for heaven, they would release a balloon and this becomes a ritual.

Xiaoyu was a child with brain tumor. He did not get better after several craniotomies. The doctor cannot practice more operations on him because he’s too young. After Xiaoyu came the Rainbow Home, he got better and better with the tumor in his head becoming smaller thanks to the care and company of the nursing moms.
Not long before this, Douban posted a documentary on Rainbow Home that attracted much attention. Many kind citizens mailed one-time medication kits, which’re enough for the use of 20 years because only Qianlan has the need for the medication.
