The Suzhou Industrial Park Port, the largest inland river port in Jiangsu province, went into operation Tuesday morning, marking the direct shipping lane from the park to Shanghai Port.
At 11 o'clockTuesday morning, in the port of Suzhou Wusong Riverside Park, the barge full of containers slowly sailed out of the dock to head for Shanghai Port. The first batch of goods includes household appliances, paper products, glass, totaling 2,000 tons in 64 standard containers. Compared with the previous land transportation, the river shipping can save 200 yuan per TEU.
In May 2017, the Suzhou Industrial Park opened its port for trial operation. At present, the Suzhou Industrial Park has opened two routes connecting Shanghai Port and Ningbo Port. In 2017, it recorded the handling of 25,300 TEUs. The annual handling is expected to exceed 50,000 TEUs in 2018 and 65,000 TEUs in 2019, an increase of more than 30%.
