Six pumping stations for China’s South-to-North Water Transfer Project were shut down at 2:00 pm on January 24 after Jiangsu successfully completed the annual water diversion task.
The water transfer started from Dec. 25 to Jan. 24, during which about 264 million cubic meters of water, equivalent to water volume in 35 Xuanwu Lake, was pumped to Luoma Lake.
Jiangsu will kick off the second round of water transfer at around February 20.
The water diversion project, the world's largest, was designed to take water from the Yangtze to feed dry areas in the north through eastern, middle, and western routes.
