For most of the schools, winter vacation has already begun. However, some teachers and students still remain in the campus. This Monday, which is Xiao Nian or the Little New Year of 2019, all the teachers and students in Nantong University had a bowl of fish soup for free.

The 150kg fish used to make the soup were all captured by the employers of the logistics department from Shangmei Lake in Nantong University.

It is said that Nantong University put over 10 kinds of fish fry, including silver carp, herring and grass carp, into Shangmei Lake at the start of last year. The fry weighed about 0.5kg each at that time. Now, the majority of them weigh 3-4 kg.

According to Zhang Jian’an, head of Logistics Department of the university, it is part of the “Warm Winter” Program that aims to bring warmth to teachers and students in such cold days. He also said that about 50 members of the school Logistics Department were involved in the fishing and cooking.

The fishing began at 8 a.m. on the 27th and ended at 1 p.m. At 7:00 a.m. on the 28th, the staff from the catering center were organized to wash, chop and cook fish. The chefs were all busy but happy because they knew the students would be surprised.

At about 11 a.m., the school canteen was almost filled with the smell of the soup. Staff members served the soup to the teachers and students who had lunch there. Ji Zhengqiu, a graduate student posted many photos to his social media account and remarked, “The soup is just delicious. Our school is awesome!”

Staff members also posted notices in the canteen to remind people not to be hurt by fish bones. “The fish soup makes people warm. Hope it brings happiness, warmth and prosperity to everyone in the upcoming Chinese New Year.” said Wei Wei, Party Secretary of the Logistics Department of Nantong University.
