  As the Spring Festal approaches, a dazzling array of traditional New Year activities are set to unfold in Zhouzhuang, an ancient town in East China's Jiangsu province.

  There is no better time to plan a trip to Zhouzhuang than during the traditional celebrations of Chinese New Year.

  The following are the things visitors shouldn't miss during the holiday.

  1. Visit New Year themed bazaar

  At the Carton King creation park in Zhouzhuang, a New Year fair is underway and expects to last until Feb 10. Visitors are able to relish plenty of snacks including tomatoes on sticks and cotton candies. Besides, they can also savor local characteristic desserts while taking part in multiple celebratory events ranging from a parade, magic show to DIY activities.

  2. Experience traditional Chinese New Year celebrations

  Visitors to the water town could still experience some traditional celebrations of Chinese New Year, which including whipping the spring ox and welcoming the God of Wealth.

  On the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, there will be a colorful parade down the town's waterways as people go to greet the God of Wealth.

  3. Walk through three bridges

  Zou San Qiao, or walking through three bridges, is a tradition in Zhouzhuang to greet the New Year, as plenty of bridge names in the town including Fu'an bridge and Jubao bridge carry the auspicious meanings such as happiness and abundance.

  4. Tour ancient buildings

  Zhouzhuang is noted for its profound history and well-preserved ancient buildings. The former residence of Shen Wansan, former residence of Ye Chucang as well as the Milou are all excellent choices for visitors to enjoy the charm of ancient Chinese architectures.

  5. Observe great artisanship

  There are 12 workshops in Zhouzhuang where local artisans practice traditional crafts. The embroidered shoe house, famous for its decorated shoes with intricate patterns, is particularly popular, especially among children.
