The West Branch of Suzhou Museum, expected to open by the end of 2020, will become China’s first museum school with an emphasis on educational function, according to the museum curator Chen Ruijin.
The construction of the main building has started after the recent completion of its pile foundation.
The expansion of Suzhou Museum has a building area of 48,300 square meters, including an exhibition area of 12,000 square meters. It will showcase the long history and traditional crafts of Suzhou and highlight traditional Suzhou culture in interactive ways.
The exhibition area of the new branch is divided into 5 sections, about Suzhou’s general history, crafts, children's discovery zone, the cooperation hall with the Royal Ontario Museum of Canada and the temporary exhibition hall, respectively, according to the draft plan.
