The comprehensive practice class has become a compulsory course for primary and secondary schools in the province in the new semester, according to the Guidelines for the Comprehensive Practice of Primary and Secondary Schools issued by the Provincial Department of Education last year.
The first class of comprehensive practice in Langyalu Primary School of Nanjing was filled with the Chinese New Year atmosphere as the students were making explorations on the lunar new year by learning to cook the new year dishes and studying the new year traditions.
On every Wednesday afternoon, the students of Langyalu Primary School will have two classes of comprehensive practice. In the coming months they will visit the provincial academy of agriculture, the museum of Nanjing and the observatory to gain on-site experiences.
Compared with the "hands-on" of primary school students, the comprehensive practice class of Nanjing Jinling Middle School is closer to the discipline: designing circuits, welding production, observing the laws of motion of objects under the sensor, and finally recording the experimental report on the computer.
The planting classes in Suzhou primary and secondary schools allow children to discover and explore in the spring harvest. The life and labor education classes in Yangzhou primary and secondary schools allow the students to move from school to family, so that children will not only learn but also be independent.
According to the requirements of the Provincial Department of Education, the comprehensive practice class averages no less than 1 class per week in grades 1 to 2 of primary school, no less than 2 class hours per week in grades 3 to 6 and junior high school, and the credits are completed for the new program of high school students.
The comprehensive practice course has changed the situation of teachers' lecturing and students' listening in the traditional subject teaching mode, allowing the students to experience on-the-spot investigations and hands-on practice to cultivate their comprehensive ability.
