After the Qingdao-Yancheng railway was completed and opened to traffic, residents of port cities paid more attention to the construction situation of high-speed railway in the direction of Yancheng southwards to Shanghai. Recently, good news has been reported on the construction of the Yancheng-Nantong railway and the Shanghai-Nantong railway, which connect Qingdao-Yancheng railway, and will lay a foundation for residents of port city to travel directly to Shanghai by bullet train in 2020.

The Yancheng South Super Large Bridge, recently built by the Fourth Bureau of the China Railway, has been successfully completed, marking another breakthrough in the construction of the Yancheng-Nantong High-Speed Bridge.
Yancheng-to-Nantong high-speed railway starts from Yancheng station, heads to the south by Dafeng district, Dongtai city, Hai 'an city, Rugao city, and ends at Nantong west station of the Shanghai-to-Nantong railway, which is under construction. The new main line has a total length of 156.6 km, and adopts the technical standard of double-track high-speed railway with a speed of 350 km/h.
After the completion of Yancheng-to-Nantong railway and Shanghai-to-Nantong railway, the northern Jiangsu region, including Lianyungang, will be seamlessly connected to the Shanghai hub, which is expected to arrive in about 2 hours. Lianyungang will be integrated into the coastal railway channel of Shandong, southern Jiangsu, Shanghai and eastern Zhejiang, which is the most convenient railway transport channel in eastern China.
