Yangtze River Delta braces for travel peak during Dragon Boat Festival

Transport authorities in the Yangtze River Delta are gearing up for the travel peak during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday that will last from June 6 to 9.

The bulk flow of passengers in the Yangtze River Delta will be those going for sightseeing or visiting relatives as the national college entrance examination will be taking place during the period, the railway authority said. 


10.56 million railway trips are expected to be made during the four-day period, up 10.5% year on year. The flow of railway passengers will average 2.64 million, according to estimation.

The peak of the railway travel will come on the afternoon of June 6th, the morning of June 7th and the afternoon of June 9th. Train tickets for these periods have fallen short of supply. 

Train tickets heading for Beijing, Tianjin, Hankou, Zhengzhou, Nanchang and Hangzhou are also almost sold out, the Nanjing railway station said.


Coach terminals in Jiangsu are also gearing up to cope with the surge of passengers during the holiday. Passengers are advised to book their tickets on Wechat app or bus stewardess app. 

Over 100 million Chinese are expected to travel across China and overseas during the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival, Ctrip, China's popular online travel agency, said on Wednesday.

Ctrip said in its latest report that holidaymakers have booked tours to over 800 destinations across 92 countries and regions through its platform during the holiday from June 7 to 9.

The Dragon Boat Festival falls on June 7 this year, making a three-day public holiday that lasts from June 7 to 9.
