East China’s Jiangsu province will give better play to the Belt and Road initiative in Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Lianyungang, Xuzhou, Nanjing and Nantong, according to the opinions on the promotion of the BRI in Jiangsu released last month by the provincial government.
As an important hub city for the construction of the Belt and Road initiative, Nanjing will actively promote capacity cooperation, support competitive enterprises in artificial intelligence, new energy vehicles, and integrated circuit sectors to seek overseas presence. At the same time, the city will invite Belt and Road countries to launch investment in China so as to seek overall development of the international market.
As an important sea gateway, Nantong will seek active involvement and participation in the BRI by building 3 cross-sea expressways, 3 deep-water channels, 3 river-sea intermodal passages and 2 railway freight passages. In the meantime, it has completed the feasibility report on the construction of a 100,000-tonnage shipping lane and the upgrade of a 200,000-tonnage shipping lane.
Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou have focused on their roles of being the demonstration cities for international capacity cooperation, seize the opportunity of deep adjustment of international industrial division of labor, and strive to promote the overseas presence of equipment manufacturing enterprises such as construction machinery and rail transit, as well as textile, petrochemical and other enterprises. They will also support local enterprises to integrate international high-quality factors and resources so as to build a cross-border industrial chain system integrating production, manufacturing and marketing.
As a strategic fulcrum of the BRI, Lianyungang will give full play to its port industries to strengthen the construction of port cooperation parks, build high-standard Shanghai Cooperation Organization logistic parks, and establish cooperation mechanisms with the ports of the Belt and Road countries. It will also promote the development of major projects and competitive industries, build world-class petrochemical industrial bases and national new material industrial bases with high standards, and strive to build the most convenient seaport for the country’s central and western regions.
The city of Xuzhou will strive to boost the development of its modern manufacturing industry and the interconnectivity of facilities. It will also promote the construction of a modern comprehensive transport hub, launch an inland port of international transfer for the Huaihai Economic Zone and support the investment on overseas industrial park.
By the end of 2020, Jiangsu is expected to consolidate its competitive strengths in the Belt and Road construction and come up with a pattern of high-level opening up. By 2025, the province is expected to be developed into the BRI meeting point with global influence.
