East China’s Jiangsu province has launched a campaign since the start of this year to improve the ecological environment in the Yangtze River in a bid to boost the high quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
The Port Authority of Zhangjiagang has arranged for special garbage collecting vessels to receive the sewages on the cargo ships.
The domestic wastes on the cargo ships are also packed up to be disposed of in the garbage trash.
Receiving ship pollutants free of charge is a concrete measure for Zhangjiagang to rein in ship pollution in the Yangtze River.
In the past month, the port has received 3 tons of sewages and 8 cubic meters of domestic wastes with no cases of illegal dumping found so far.
Jiangsu has taken specific measures to enhance the treatment of urban sewages, chemical pollution, agricultural pollution, and pollution caused by passing ships.
By the end of August, the province had launched renovation projects on 114 polluted rivers with 33 of them fulfilled.
The number of chemical industry parks along the Yangtze River has been cut to 33 from 37 in 2017.
46% of the chemical plants have been relocated into industrial parks, compared with 23.5% in 2017.
Large scale poultry breeding farms are expected to measure up to the pollution control standards by the end of the year.
In the meantime, Jiangsu has promoted the ecological demonstration zones along the Yangtze River. The Langshan National Forest Park in Nantong, for example, has become an attraction for the local residents to spend their leisure time and do physical exercises.
9 ecological demonstration zones have been launched since the start of this year in Jiangyin, Nanjing, Changzhou and Zhenjiang to benefit people’s life and improve the ecological environment.
