Five towns in Wuxi rank among China's top 100

  Five towns in East China's Wuxi city were listed among China's top 100 towns for comprehensive rural strength, the People's Daily newspaper announced on Oct 8.

  Huashi town and Zhouzhuang town in Jiangyin city, Luoshe town in Huishan district, Donggang town in Xishan district and Guanlin town in Yixing city won the honor.

  They achieved recognition through grading of their economic development, social improvements, environmental developments, urban and rural integration development and government services.

  Huashi town was listed 39th and topped the five towns in Wuxi. Huaxi village, known for its success in opening up and realizing a common prosperity, is located there.

  Huashi town now develops both traditional and new industries, including metallurgy, textiles, new energy resources and electronic Information.

  Though Jiangyin's Zhouzhuang town is less famous than its namesake in Kunshan city, its beautiful natural scenery and textiles industry are both worthy of attention. In 2018, its GDP reached 34.27 billion yuan ($4.8 billion), growing nearly 1,146 times the level in 1978.

  The list, compiled by the China Research Institute of Development Strategy for Small-medium Cities, is part of the research system for the small-medium cities development index.

  The research system systematically and comprehensively characterizes the development of small-medium cities in China from various dimensions.

  These include comprehensive strength, green development, investment potential, technological innovation and new urbanization quality.
