Two new high-speed railways went into operation on Monday. They are the Xuzhou-Yancheng high-speed railway and the Lianyungang-Huai’an section of the Lianyungang-Zhenjiang high-speed railway.
At the opening ceremony held Monday morning in Yancheng city, Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, declared open the Xuzhou-Yancheng high-speed railway and the Lianyungang-Huai’an section of the Lianyungang-Zhenjiang high-speed railway.
Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, and Wang Tongjun, Deputy General Manager of National Railway Group, addressed the ceremony.
Lou Qinjian, Wu Zhenglong and Wang Tongjun inspected the floor map of the two high-speed railways that are an important part of the railway network in the north of the province.
The Xuzhou-Yancheng high-speed railway starts from Xuzhou east railway station in the west and ends at Yancheng in the east. 9 stations are built along the rail track. The train will be operated at an hourly speed of 250 kilometers.
The Lianyungang-Huai’an section of the Lianyungang-Zhenjiang high-speed railway will be operated at 250 kilometers per hour. 4 stations are built along the 105-kilometer rail track that starts from Dongji in the north and ends at Huai’an in the south.
The opening to traffic of the two high-speed railways has enabled ten of the 13 prefectural cities in Jiangsu to have access to bullet train services by adding the province’s total railway mileage to 3550 kilometers. 1270 kilometers of them are high-speed railways with a maximum speed of 250 kilometers and above.
Wu Zhenglong expressed his gratitude to the National Railway Corporation and people from all walks of life for their long-term support to development of Jiangsu.
The operation of the two high-speed railways has improved the strategic position and influence of North Jiangsu and the entire province in the Belt and Road construction, the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, he said.
The Governor stressed that more efforts should be made to speed up the construction of a modern integrated transportation system, and strive to play a greater role in the integration and high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta so as to satisfy people’s expectations for a better life and boost the construction of a new Jiangsu.
Wang Tongjun expressed his congratulations on the opening of the two new high-speed railways.
He said with the support of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, Jiangsu has built a large number of high-speed rail projects and modern integrated transportation hubs, which has played an important role in promoting economic and social development and meeting the people's demand for a beautiful life.
The National Railway Group will, as always, support the development of Jiangsu's railway construction and play a pilot role in the construction of a strong transportation country, he said.
Lou Qinjian, Wu Zhenglong and Wang Tongjun were joined by the others to get aboard the first train departing from Yancheng for a maiden ride.
The leaders got off at the Huai’an East Station, Suqian Station and Xuzhou East Station to inspect the facilities and business centers.
They demanded scientific planning and hard work for the promotion of high quality development in the province.
