East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up its efforts for the improvement of the food traceability system to ensure food safety.
Through government and enterprise cooperation in research and development, using the Internet of Things technology, the production, circulation and consumption of goods are organically linked to the collection, transmission, processing and inquiry of related information so that the goods can be traced.
At present, nearly 50 supermarkets in Nanjing have used the system, which can trace 1,765 fresh produce. From 2020, the traceability system will be extended across the province in gradual stages.
In order to ensure food safety, Jiangsu has been strengthening the food traceability system in recent years. Jiangsu is also building an electronic traceability system for food companies to track food production, processing, and operations, while providing the public with a convenient and efficient query network.
Up to now, Jiangsu has incorporated 3898 food production and operation entities into the system, which can trace the data of almost 980,000 batches of food that cover 30 categories such as liquor, dairy products, and food additives.
By the end of this year, the food traceability system will be applied to all the salt production enterprises, 70% of the edible vegetable oil enterprises, and 60% of meat product production enterprises to ensure food safety.
