Construction on the Logistics Railway went underway in the Taicang Port recently. This project is listed as the 12 major railway waterway intermodal transport facilities in the Yangtze River trunk line and is a major project in Jiangsu Province.
This special line leads from the Taicang Port Station of the Shanghai-Nantong Railway and extends east to the container operation area of the port area. The main line is about 13.1 kilometers in length and designed with 80 kilometers per hour. Construction on the rail line will take 1.5 years.
The railway mainly serves the transportation of goods between the Taicang Port Area and the Shanghai-Nantong Railway, which can enhance the competitiveness of the Port of Taicang.
In the first 11 months of this year, Taicang Port recorded a container throughput of 4.74 million TEUs and 199 million tons, and is expected to register 5.15 million TEUs and 215 million tons. In the next three to five years, Taicang Port is expected to handle 10 million TEUs in annual container throughput.
