2019年12月，位于江苏淮安的张纯如纪念馆迎来了一批特殊的客人——南京大屠杀期间鼓楼医院外科医生罗伯特·威尔逊的后人。在参加完国家公祭仪式之后，他们来到淮安，参加张纯如中外人文交流研究中心的揭牌仪式并参观了张纯如纪念馆。

Robert Wilson
Dr. Robert Wilson was a surgeon with the Drum Tower Hospital in Nanjing. He stayed behind during the Nanjing Massacre in December 1937 to shelter and rescue many Chinese victims. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Nanking Safety Zone, which sheltered more than 200,000 people within its confined walls.
今年82岁的伊丽莎白·威尔逊是威尔逊医生的大女儿，这是她第二次来南京参加国家公祭仪式。1937年6月，伊丽莎白在南京出生。她回忆到：“战争变得越来越严重。在我六个月大的时候，我和母亲便离开了南京。”但威尔逊医生毅然决定留下，救治伤者。

由于伊丽莎白当时仅有几个月大，她对于这段历史的记忆也非常模糊。“我的父亲从来不提，我的母亲也从来不提，我的弟弟妹妹很长一段时间里都不知道这段历史。”
罗伯特当时写给家人的信件
威尔逊医生和家人的信件成了张纯如写作的重要素材。在《南京浩劫：被遗忘的大屠杀》一书出版之前，张纯如曾拜访威尔逊医生的太太，收集了大量素材。在参观当天，威尔逊的小女儿玛姬意外地发现了一张母亲同张纯如的合照。

"I think I was so in awe about Iris Chang and not really understanding why Iris Chang was there and what she was going to write about," Marge recalled. "I didn't know any of that until Iris Chang came into my living room, talked to my mother and wrote the book The Rape of Nanking."
Robert Wilson Jr. also said that they didn't understand what Dr. Robert Wilson had done until Iris Chang's book came out.
1997年《南京浩劫：被遗忘的大屠杀》发表以后，在英语世界引起强烈反响，高居纽约时报最畅销排行榜达3个月，让世界上更多的人对南京大屠杀有了应有的认知。
The months that Chang spent documenting the horrific scenario took a physical and emotional toll. On the morning of November 16, 2004, Chang was found along Highway 17 in Los Gatos, California, the victim of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot. In a note to her family, she asked to be remembered as the person she was before she became ill, engaged with life, committed to her causes, her writing and her family.
伊丽莎白在参观后对记者说道：“张纯如改变了整个世界对于南京大屠杀的认知。这个纪念馆展示了如此多的东西，就好似把张纯如重新带回我们的身边。”
"Just recently, America has the Nanjing Massacre been in our history books," said Marge Wilson, "Our young children know nothing. Your young children are learning. I am thankful that your country is teaching the young children this part of history."
