Three psychologists from the Wuxi Mental Health Center left Wuxi on Feb 24 for Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak, to provide medical support.

Jiangsu province received a call for a mental healthcare team from the central government on Feb 23 and organized a team of 27 experienced psychologists and one executive to help treat novel coronavirus patients and their families, as well as frontline medical workers with mental illnesses.

The three doctors from Wuxi also brought 1,600ml of plasma collected from five recovered coronavirus patients, which has been recommended for clinical use by top health authorities.

Zhang Guofu, head of the team, has committed to helping provide psychological support for psychiatric patients. Zhang also formed a work team to provide guidance for rescue and disaster relief for novel coronavirus patients suffering from unstable mental conditions.

Shen Limin has experience monitoring the mental conditions of novel coronavirus patients in the Wuxi No 5 People's Hospital and providing psychological counseling to them via video chat.

Shen assessed the psychological conditions of patients and provided psychological counseling and treatment recommendations.

A total of 169 Wuxi doctors are currently fighting against the novel coronavirus epidemic on the frontlines in Hubei province.
