The second batch of 350 doctors and nurses sent to Hubei province by Jiangsu to aid the battle against the novel coronavirus epidemic or COVID-19 returned home in triumph on Thursday.

The doctors and nurses are from hospitals in Xuzhou and Yangzhou and the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Hospital.

The Xuzhou team and the Yangzhou team arrived in Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus outbreak, to take over four intensive care wards of the Wuhan No. 1 Hospital where they treated 158 critically ill patients and cured 142 patients. No medical staff was infected.

The first batch of 709 doctors and nurses sent to Hubei province by Jiangsu to aid the battle against the novel coronavirus epidemic or COVID-19 returned home on Tuesday.

China has started a phased withdrawal of medical workers sent to aid medical treatment in Hubei province, the center of the coronavirus outbreak, in another sign that the epidemic has been brought under control in the country and its hardest hit region.

China sent 346 medical teams and more than 42,600 medical workers to help with the medical treatment in Hubei province, an official with the National Health Commission said on March 8.
