Wuxi's Binhu district held its 2019 Commendation Conference on April 27 to honor enterprises, scientific institutes and individuals who made outstanding contributions to high-quality economic and social development in the district over the last year.
The conference is meant to recognize achievements in 2019, set examples to inspire others, and boost confidence in developing businesses battered by the COVID-19 epidemic, aiming for stronger economic and social performance this year, according to its host.
This year, the Special Contribution Award, the conference's highest honor, went to Wuxi AppTec, a leader in the city's biomedical industry, which paid the most in taxes in Wuxi in 2019, and Jiangsu Maxscend, a leader in the city's integrated circuit industry, which was listed on the GEM of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2019. Each company was awarded 1 million yuan ($141,117.35) by the district government.
The top 10 scientific institutes and top 10 enterprises engaged in emerging industries, advanced manufacturing, the service sector, cultural tourism and technological innovation were given a trophy and certificate of honor.
Yang Ming, general manager of WSH, an internet technology company at the conference, thanked the local government for its support in acquiring office space, attracting talent and funding projects that have helped the company grow rapidly.
The conference also honored high-end talents ratified by the district who played an important role in promoting the development of their employers.
Xu Feng, director of the district, paid respect to the award winners in his speech during the conference. He reviewed the district's performance in 2019 and encouraged attendees of the conference to achieve even more this year.
Binhu has reported rapidly increasing revenue in its six priority industries - medicine, integrated circuits, internet of vehicles, information security, film and television, and financing. Twelve of the provincial-level scientific institutes are located in the district.
