Sumitronics, a Japanese electronics manufacturing service (EMS) provider, will invest 2 billion yen ($18.6 million) to build a new plant for EMS business with Do-Nikko Engineering Co in Wuxi National Hi-tech District, according to a signing ceremony on July 13.
The new plant will focus on the production and sale of semiconductor substrates and is expected to expand into the auto interior equipment sector in the future. It will be put into operation in 2020.
Sumitronics is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation, a Fortune Global 500 company based in Japan. It is among the three EMS providers in Japan, focusing on automotive guidance systems, locators, navigation devices, car audio, thin-screen TVs, laptops, mobile phones and more.
According to officials, the new plant will be the fourth enterprise invested in by Sumitomo Corporation in WND.
Wuxi is home to many of China's leading electronic information companies, and more than 1,000 Japanese firms have set up operations in the city. WND, a center for the development of the internet of things and integrated circuit industries in Wuxi, will give full support to the construction of the new plant, officials said.
