Chen Zhu, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Congress, and He Wei, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, led a team of the China Peasants and Workers Democratic Party to go on an inspection tour in Jiangsu to learn about the efforts made and progress achieved on strengthening National Strategic Science and Technology Forces for Life and Health.
The inspection team went on the tour in Nanjing, Taizhou and Xuzhou. A symposium was held in the China Pharmaceutical Special Development Zone in Taizhou.
Chen Zhu emphasized that it is necessary to thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's series of important expositions on scientific and technological innovation from the perspective of people-centered thinking and safeguarding the overall security of the country so as to make a profound understanding of the importance of strengthening the national strategic scientific and technological strength for life and health.
Measures must be taken to strengthen the top-level design and system layout in the field of life and health, strengthen basic research, focus on original innovation, and build an overall advantage for future medical development.
He also put forward specific opinions on the establishment of national laboratories, the reorganization of national key laboratories, the transformation of scientific research results in life and health, the strengthening of corporate strategic scientific and technological strength, the system and mechanism of strategic scientific and technological strength operation, and research on life and health-related soft sciences with the joint efforts of governments at all levels.
He Wei pointed out that Jiangsu’s life and health industry is an important part of the national strategic scientific and technological strength due to its relatively high proportion in China’s pharmaceutical supply system.
On behalf of the provincial government, Vice Governor Qi Jiabin introduced the scientific and technological innovation and industrial development in the field of life and health in Jiangsu.
