East China’s Jiangsu province released its 2020 ecological environment bulletin on Wednesday. The bulletin shows that the overall ecological environment in the province reached the best ever level in the 13th five-year plan period between 2016 and 2020.
81% of the days were rated excellent air quality last year, up 9.6% year on year, according to the bulletin.
The density of PM2.5 stood at 38 Mg/m3, a decline of 11.6% year on year, the bulletin said.
87.5% of the water quality in the rivers and lakes placed under the country’s monitoring mechanism have reached class III standards and above, up 8.7% from a year ago.
The ecological environment index stood at 65.2 across the province with the index in the 13 prefecture-level cities rated fair quality and water quality at an optimal state.
Steady growth was reported in the ecological control in the designated areas across the province with the vegetation coverage reaching 77.6%, indicating a continuous improvement in the ecological environment.
The water quality of 10 sections of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu was rated class II with the water quality of major rivers leading into the Yangtze at an optimal state.
97.8% of the 45 sections of the Yangtze River in Jiangsu reported class III water quality last year, up 6.7% year on year, indicating the overall efficiency in the improvement of the ecological environment along the Yangtze River.
