Greater efforts should be made to implement new development philosophy and promote high quality development in the coastal areas with wider vision, more systematic planning and more effective measures by following the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era. The remark was made by Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, who went on an inspection tour Tuesday and Wednesday in Lianyungang.
Lou Qinjian visited local villages in Lianyungang in a bid to learn about the efforts being made to implement the spirit of the provincial symposium on high-quality development of coastal areas that was held in mid-April.
When visiting Liuyunling Village, Lou inquired in great details about the efforts and progress in the development of coastal villages and demanded that systematic planning and scientific layout should be promoted to ensure the integrated development of production, township, culture and tourism and the overall revitalization of the countryside by relying on the unique ecological resources of the coastal areas.
During his inspection tour in Yangshan Island and Yuntai Mountain, Lou Qinjian asked local authorities to increase the intensity of scientific protection, seek development in the course of protection through development, and build a desirable coastal ecological scenery belt.
The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee inspected the petrochemical industry base in Xuwei New Area where he was briefed on the construction of major investment projects in Lianyungang since the start of this year, and spoke highly of the new development of the port’s characteristic industries.
Lou Qinjian visited Guanyun County to inspect the local efforts in the campaign on Party history learning and education.
He took a boat ride to Kaishan Island to inspect the tools and equipment used by Wang Jicai during his duty as a lone sentry guard on the tiny island over 32 years. In 1986, then a 26-year-old militia member, Wang Jicai took up the lonely sentry job of guarding the tiny Kaishan Island the size of two football pitches, off the coast of Jiangsu province. At that time, his only human companion was his wife. For 32 years, Wang Jicai resolutely stuck to his post without complaint, raising the Chinese national flag on the island, noting down details of passing ships, rescuing fishermen or people who strayed into the treacherous waters and helping catch smugglers. Wang died in an accident in August 2018 and was honored by the CPC Central Committee as a national role model for his lifelong dedication and patriotism.
He also greeted Wang Jicai’s wife and the militia members who are sent to the island by turns and asked them to carry forward the spirit of patriotism and tireless struggle of the role models of dedication to create a powerful source of strength in the promotion of the campaign on Party history learning and education by following the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era.
Lou Qinjian emphasized that local governments must abide by the provincial party committee’s policies and decisions on high-quality coastal development, and go all out to promote the construction of major projects of industrial development, infrastructure, and livelihood with high standards, high quality and high efficiency.
