East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up the construction of major investment projects and ensured their smooth progress through every possible effort so as to achieve the social and economic development targets set forth in this year’s government work report. JSBC has the story.
Nantong has begun to excavate a shield tunneling through the Yangtze River for the Yongqing-Shanghai section of the eastern route of the Sino-Russian natural gas pipeline. This is currently the world's largest, deepest and most difficultriver-crossing shield project with the longest distance, highest water pressure, largest diameter, and most complex situation.
The constructors used the world's first atmospheric cutter-head shield machine with the smallest diameter so that a series of problems were overcome in the tunneling process.
"The shield machine will pass through the levee on the north bank of the Yangtze River from the bottom of the river,the main channel of the Yangtze River,at the anchorage of the Changshu marine vessel,and the national-level aquatic resources protection zone of the Yangtze River,by digging 450 meters per month,so as to ensure completion on September 30, 2023."Gu Yanqi, Manager of the Shield Tunneling Project
The eastern route of the Sino-Russian natural gas pipeline traverses Hebei, Shandong, and Jiangsu before reaches Shanghai.
Upon its completion in 2025, the project will transmit a daily amount of 50 million cubic meters of natural gas from Russia to the Yangtze River Delta, which will triple the current capacity and boost the green development in the delta region.
Construction on the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou high-speed railway is being accelerated with 3 high-voltage electricity towers reinstalled recently for power supply.
The relocation of the high-voltage iron towers has provided more than 1500 square meters of areas for the railway construction.
The 163-km-long Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou high-speed railway includes 52 kilometers in the Jiangsu section.
Upon its operation in 2024, the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou high-speed railway will give a strong impetus to the high quality development of the regional economy in the Yangtze River Delta.
