East China's Jiangsu province has taken the initiative in the country to strive for the fulfillment of twin pursuits of peak carbon emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 as a sign of the province’s effort to promote the adjustment of industrial structures and energy structures, and realize innovative practices in pollution control and carbon emission reduction.
As a large-scale steel enterprise in Jiangsu, Nanjing Iron and Steel Group has focused on the coking and sintering processes that generate the largest amount of waste gas by eliminated all low-end coal-fired boilers, and investing more than 8 billion yuan to carry out transformation on ultra-low emission.
The advanced desulfurization and de-sale technology turns the sulfides and nitrogen oxides in the flue gas into solids, ensuring that water vapor is discharged from the chimney.

"In accordance with the national ultra-low emission control requirements the emission standard of sulfur dioxide should be less than 30 mg per cubic meter. According to real-time monitoring data on site our emission standard is kept around 15 mg per cubic meter.In addition, our nitrogen oxides and dust emissions data are also far below the national ultra-low emission control standards."Sun Peng said.
Nanjing Iron and Steel Group has reported emission decrease in sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter by 67.32%, 74.02% and 62.9% respectively. At the same time, as the first "National Circular Economy Standardization Pilot Unit" in the national steel industry, Nanjing Iron and Steel Group has also recovered gas pressure and sintering waste heat for power generation, thereby getting ready to provide steam resources to Nanjing Jiangbei New Area.
At present, Jiangsu has basically completed the ultra-low emission transformation in iron and steel enterprises with the scale of transformation of coal-fired units and the scale of ultra-low emission standard units ranking in the forefront of the country.
