Universities in Jiangsu province have set up new high-tech majors according to national strategies and market needs, aiming to provide students broader employment prospects.

Establishing schools for future technologies

Southeast University in Jiangsu province will select 100 students from the new enrollment into its school for future technologies, which is based on Chien-Shiung Wu College, an experimental base for excellent talents and teaching reform.

SEU was among the 12 universities nationwide to set up schools for future technologies, striving to develop cutting-edge, revolutionary, and leading technologies.

Setting up big data, AI majors

With the rapid development of industries like artificial intelligent and big data, universities have set up related majors. For instance, Hohai University has set up an AI major, while Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing Institute of Technology, as well as Nanjing Audit University have set up big data management and application majors.

Big data management and application majors meet the needs of social development and national strategies, said Cao Ting, deputy director of the student affairs office of Nanjing Audit University.

Universities cooperating with institutes, high-tech enterprises

In order to cultivate talents in certain industries, various universities have cooperated with institutes and high-tech enterprises, such as the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Tencent, as well as Huawei, to set up new majors and special classes.

Both universities and enterprises will contribute to the curriculum of the special classes and students will be offered internship opportunities with the cooperating enterprises, said Peng Yifeng, head of the admission office of Nanjing Institute of Technology.

A number of universities operating Sino-foreign educational programs

Various universities restarted Sino-foreign educational programs as the COVID-19 epidemic has been effectively controlled in China. For instance, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications has cooperated with Portland State University to set up majors like Telecommunication Engineering, as well as Electronics Science and Technology.
