The tenth Jiangsu medical team sent to aid Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region returned to Nanjing on Wednesday after fulfilling their 1.5-year pairing-up support mission in Xinjiang.
The 19-member team includes experts in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Stomatology from 9 hospitals such as Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital, Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University.
From March 2020 to July 2021, the medical team assisted Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture People’s Hospital in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 and common diseases, and the construction of intelligent hospitals.
The medical team was awarded a number of honorary titles at the end of 2020.
During its aid mission in Xinjiang, the medical team carried out free clinic activities, conducted distance surgeries and trained a number of medical backbone talents.
Bi Lei, Member of the Jiangsu Medical Team in Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture, said: "In high-altitude areas the incidence of congenital heart disease is relatively high compared with the mainland as the ultraviolet rays are relatively strong and the risk of cataracts is relatively high. We initiated two projects at the expense of the funds aided by Jiangsu and performed free surgery for more than 600 cataract patients."
Qiu Xiaosong, Member of the Jiangsu Medical Team in Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture, said: "Through a systematic mentor-to-apprentice training program, we have trained local doctors in all aspects of medical technology scientific research awareness and teaching ability to ensure that their overall medical expertise ranks in the upper middle in Xinjiang."
