Jiangsu marked the sixth annual session of the World Youth Skills Day by launching in Xuzhou city the first Skills Carnival for Jiangsu-based technical colleges.

The carnival has built a platform for students from technical colleges and universities in the province to learn from each other.

The students showed off their stunts such as engraving on eggs, carving the red boat and Tiananmen Square on olive pits, blindfolding to identify sleeves with 150 different apertures, operating an excavator to cut cucumbers on balloons, and so on.

"We highlight the basic skills and the projects we are showing benefit from our usual basic skills training which allows students to strive for excellence, "said Zhao Boluan, Associate Dean of Teaching, School of Automotive Engineering, Xuzhou Technician College.

86 technical colleges, human resource service agencies, and business representatives from across the province participated in the carnival.

Gathering exhibitions, performances, competitions, meetings and other forms, the event aims to demonstrate and drive more young people to learn and study skills by showing the achievements of technical colleges and universities, sharing the growth experience of outstanding talents, etc.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Jiangsu will focus on the construction of an independent and controllable modern industrial system, and support technical colleges and universities to set up majors in key fields such as advanced manufacturing, strategic emerging industries, and modern service industries.

By 2025, Jiangsu-based technical colleges will cultivate 50 provincial-level brand and specialty programs that are suited to Jiangsu's construction of advanced manufacturing clusters.
