National role model of the times Wang Shihua from east China’s Jiangsu province raises the national flag alongside with the Xizang sisters Zhuoga and Yangzhong, who are also national role models of the times, at a pairing-up ceremony in Yumai Township of Longzi County in Shannan, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region.
It takes at least eight hours to drive from Lhasa, capital of Xizang, to Yumai Township as the car has to climb up the 5000-meter Rila Mountain.
Wang Shihuasuffered alot from altitude sickness and motion sickness, but she was looking forward to her trip to fulfill her promise.
"In 2019 when Zhuoga and Yangzong visited Kaishan Island we raised the flag together, We agreed that I will also visit Yumai when I have time in the future."said by WangShihua, National Role Model of the Times.
Wang Shihua was the wife of Wang Jicai, former head of the militia post on Kaishan Island in east China's Jiangsu Province, who died of sudden illness when on duty on July 27, 2018 after spending 32 years guarding an island post, assisted by his wife. They were honored by the CPC Central Committee as national role models for their lifelong dedication and patriotism.
Before 1996, the only residents in the Yumai township were Zhuoga and Yangzhong and their father. They have been guardians of the country's border area for half a century.Yumai is China's smallest town in terms of population, which sits at the southern foot of the Himalayas.
"They are on the west side of the motherland, we are on the east side of the motherlandthey raise the national flag every day and so do we. As long as the national flag is raised the land under your feet will have color. Only by safeguarding the land of the motherland can you have the peace of your home."said by WangShihua, National Role Model of the Times.
"One day my father was looking for red and yellow cloths and we thought he was going to make new clothes for us. Later, it turned out that my father was sewing stars on the cloth to make a national flag. My father told us to protect the national flag means guarding the country."said by Zhuoga, National Role Model of the Times.
On Kaishan Island today, more than 10 militiamen have taken over the task of defending the island, and the living conditions on the island have been completely renewed.
The current Yumai Township has also been built from a "three-person township" to a border village with more than 60 households and more than 200 residents.
In the past, winter lasted for months in Yumai, with the township being completely isolated from the outside world starting from November every year.
"The distance from Kaishan Island to the snow-covered plateau spans is more than 4,000 kilometers and crosses an altitude of more than 3,600 meters. This is the hand-in-hand connection between the mountain and the sea and it is the bloodline of home and country.
