Recently, an invitational exhibition of Chinese paintings embodying Gu Kaizhi’s art theory of “Qian Xiang Miao De” opened at the Suzhou Museum of Imperial Kiln Brick in Xiangcheng District.
The exhibition is part of the 3rd China (Suzhou) Jiangnan Culture and Art & International Tourism Festival. It will last until Nov. 8 and closes every Monday.
Gu Kaizhi (顾恺之, ca. 344-406) is a celebrated painter of ancient China. His far-reaching painting theory of “Qian Xiang Miao De” (transformation in imagination bringing unexpected acquisition) is one of the important aesthetic principles of traditional Chinese painting, according to Xu Huiquan, director of the Chinese Artists Association and vice chairman of the Jiangsu Federation of Literary and Art Circles.
This exhibition is sponsored by the Suzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Publicity Department of the CPC Xiangcheng District Committee, and undertaken by the Xiangcheng District Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts. On display are works of figures, landscape, flowers and birds, which reflect the artists’ exquisite techniques and creative styles.
