The shield machine cutter head of the Jiangyin-Jingjiang Yangtze River Tunnel, the largest-diameter shield tunnel in the Yangtze River Basin, was hoisted into the shaft, marking that the project is about to tunnel across the Yangtze River.
Measuring 165 meters long and weighing about 5,100 tons, the shield machine is the most advanced and intelligent super large diameter shield machine in China. The cutter head of the shield machine, including the spreader, weighs about 410 tons, making it the largest hoisting part of the entire shield machine. The Jiangyin-Jingjiang Yangtze River Tunnel is 6445 meters long, with a shield section of 4952 meters, making it the second longest tunnel on the Yangtze River. The excavation diameter of the shield machine is 16.09 meters. It is constructed according to the standard of a two-way six-lane highway, making it the largest diameter shield tunnel in the Yangtze River Basin. With the lowest point of the tunnel 82 meters below the river surface, the highway shield tunnel under construction in China is subject to the highest water pressure.
