China-Europe freight train services saw rapid growth in 2021 amid safe and smooth operation, China State Railway Group Co Ltd said on Tuesday.
The number of China-Europe freight train trips surged by 22 percent year-on-year to hit 15 thousand in 2021, data from the company showed.
During the period, the freight trains handled a total of 1.46 million 20-foot equivalent units of goods, up 29 percent from a year ago.
Cooperation among countries along the rail routes has been beefed up, the company said, adding that the steady operation of the train services has made positive contributions to the stability of industrial and supply chains worldwide.
In the meantime, China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. sent off 2.53 billion passengers last year, up 16.8% year on year.
The railway authority also continues to operate local trains by transporting 170 million people, up 12.2% year on year.
The country’s volume of freight totaled 3.72 billion tons last year, a gain of 4% from a year ago.
15000 China-Europe freight trains were sent off on both directions last year, up 22% from a year before.
The new western land-sea corridor trains delivered 570,000 TEUs throughout the year, an increase of 57.5% year-on-year.
In the fourth quarter, China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. transported 60002 carriages of coal for thermal power generation per day, a year-on-year increase of 25.5%.
By the end of 2021, 363 power plants with direct supply of coal by railways had stockpiled 70.99 million tons of coal, an increase of 41.17 million tons from the end of September, which is expected to meet the need for power generation for 23 days.
